1899
E-J Electric Installation Co. was founded in 1899. Jack Enright & Theodore Joseph co-founded E-J Electric Installation Co. in New York City during the infancy of the electrical industry, an era of paper and wood-lined conduits and combination gas/electric lighting fixtures
1918
Jacques Mann developed innovative methods of wiring studios and theatres and was chosen for the design and installation of the Paramount Astoria Motion Picture Studio, which was redesigned forty years later by J. Robert Mann. E-J assumed industry leadership and was given most of the large East Coast movie studio projects
1922
E-J converted streetlamps from gas to electricity and maintained the lighting poles for the town of Yonkers, NY
1937
E-J produced several innovative techniques and assisted in the development of National Electrical Code rules for such applications
1940-1943
E-J expanded its capabilities to become the leader in shipbuilding. Its first contract was awarded for four P.C. subchasers, with four more following. Despite tremendous challenges, E-J overcame the obstacles and was selected to assume the sole responsibility for expanding and building the electrical systems for the Landing Ship Tanks program at many inland shipbuilding facilities around the country
1942
Electrica Mexam, a subsidiary of E-J, directed and installed the electrical system for the largest motion picture studio in Mexico, located in Churubusco, outside Mexico City, which is still operating today
1944
E-J innovated the use of pressed-steel watertight panels and outlet boxes for weight savings, which were subsequently widely used by the Navy. E-J was recognized with five “E” awards by the US Navy for its proficiency in completing selected, specific assignments in ship wiring at multiple shipyards in the USA
1950
E-J installed electricity for maximum security projects such as the Brooklyn House of Detention and the Queens Court House and Prison. This gave E-J responsibility for overall electrical distribution, security systems, tamper-proof lighting, electric control of locks, and equipment for prisons and top security institutions
1962
E-J designed and installed the first USA Sound and Light (Son et Lumiere) presentation at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, and wired the original Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at New York Hospital
1964
E-J performed the electrical installation at the New York World’s Fair Hawaiian Exhibit and several other exhibits. E-J worked closely with the Hawaiian Government to enhance the entrance to the exhibit to gain more exposure from the public
1970
E-J became the expert electrical contracting firm in the U.S. for installing nationwide computerized reservation systems for airlines in 120 cities. During this period, E-J also performed the complete construction of major 13kV substations along the North Shore of Queens and Long Island for uninterrupted power on the LIRR
1970
E-J installed electrical systems for the specialized needs of over 19 hospitals and other healthcare facilities, such as Beth Israel Hospital and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center
1980
E-J completed projects in New York City for the Museum of Modern Art, the Rhiga Royal Hotel, and AT&T World Headquarters, one of the most lavish and noteworthy corporate headquarters in the United States
1990
E-J expanded the LIRR Hillside Car Maintenance Facility with signal work, a train-motion detection system, rail lighting, a public address system, and DC/AC power systems
1992
E-J expanded British Airways’ terminal at JFK Airport with a 5kV substation and power, broadband LAN, fire alarm, and public address system
1992 – 2005
E-J installed and maintained all voice data, audio-video, satellite, security, television, language interpretation operations, and fire safety systems for the United Nations buildings in New York
1993
E-J Communications Systems established and promoted practical solutions for advanced business communication, including furnishing, installing, and maintaining a full range of leading-edge products and services
1997
Visy Paper Plant, the first major industrial operation in New York City in 50 years, selected E-J as its fast-track electrical contractor
1998
E-J was involved in the expansion and redevelopment of the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, the home of the annual US Open Grand Slam Championship Tournament
1999 – 2009
E-J had a major presence in Times Square and completed Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Toys “R” Us Flagship Store, 5 Times Square, New York Times Headquarters, and 11 Times Square

E-J completed one of the most outstanding architectural projects in the country, the American Museum of Natural History Rose Planetarium
2001
E-J managed and completed the International Arrivals Terminal at JFK International Airport in New York on an extremely tight schedule
2002
E-J assisted in the construction of the Jewish Community Center, an 11-story, 137,000 – square – foot facility. E-J also installed the Fresh Kills Methane Recovery Plant, which included two new methane processing systems and the upgrade of the existing plant and remote flare systems
2003 – 2011
E-J completed three 500MW power plants: NYPA Poletti and Astoria Energy I&II
2004
E-J completed Jazz at Lincoln Center, the world’s first performing arts facility designed specifically for jazz, education, performance, and broadcast
2006
Following the successful completion of the International Arrivals Terminal at JFK, E-J completed American Airlines Concourse C
2007
E-J completed the entire electrical installation for the New York Times building
2008
E-J installed the cogeneration plant in the Bank of America Tower, which is LEED platinum certified
2009
E-J completed the electrical installation, including 15,000 light fixtures, for the New Yankee Stadium and turned over the entire stadium on time for opening day
2010
E-J finished the electrical installation at the new $746 million JetBlue Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport
2012
E-J provided design-assist work for all electrical systems at the Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn, New York
2012
E-J served as the Electrical Trade Manager for the Mount Sinai Hess Center, a 410,000 SF medical science and research facility
2014
E-J completed the installation of new service, lighting, communication, and security systems for the $1.4 billion Fulton Transit Center
2017
E-J lit the Kosciuszko Bridge. Work included full electrical installation services, power, roadway lighting, bridge lighting, ITS systems, and new traffic signals
2018
E-J provided design-assist services for CPV Valley Energy 650MW Power Plant, a fast-track project that generates enough electricity to power more than 650,000 homes in the lower Hudson Valley
2019
E-J completed the 7 Line Extension from Times Square to the new 34th Street–11th Avenue station, providing lighting and power at the station and fan plants (Sites A, J, K, and L), along with all communication systems including transmission backbone, wireless radio, PA/CIS, CCTV and security, fire alarm, EBCS, time clock, and telephone intercoms
2020
E-J powered the Vessel at Hudson Yards, a 160-foot-high, 16-floor centerpiece rising 150 feet wide at the top, providing LED lighting, switchgear, sound, security, and fire alarm systems, while serving as Trade Manager for work performed in Italy
2021
E-J provided EPC services for Phase II of NYPA’s Sensor Deployment Program, installing ~1,000 advanced sensors across turbines, breakers, cables, and battery banks. All sensors connect to NYPA’s Integrated Smart Operations Center, supporting the utility’s goal to enhance grid reliability, resiliency, and real-time monitoring as the nation’s first all-digital utility
2022
E-J installed a 1.3MW rooftop solar system at LaGuardia Airport’s parking garage, mounting 3,500 solar panels that reduce the airport’s daily 16MW power demand by more than 10%
2023
E-J completed core and shell electrical work for the Gilder Center at the American Museum of Natural History, including new service, telecom, AV, security, fire alarms, lighting controls, and power infrastructure, plus interior fit-outs for amenities, a kitchen, restaurant, and displays
2024
E-J provided Design-Build services for the HH-36 Project at the Henry Hudson Bridge, delivering power resiliency, utility, and building upgrades. Work included a new maintenance garage, substation backup, mechanical room conversion, pedestrian path resurfacing, and parking improvements. The project earned the ACEC NY Gold Award for Transportation
2025
E-J was selected as the electrical contractor for JPMorgan Chase’s 270 Park Avenue, a 60-story, 2.5M sq. ft. tower. Scope includes temporary power, lighting, seven 4000A/480V switchboards, exterior lighting, and the lobby. At 1,388 ft, it will be NYC’s tallest all-electric tower, targeting net zero and LEED Platinum
